Pearl oysters and freshwater mussels create cultured pearls.  These pearls are also known as farmed pearls.   A pearls value is determined by 5 attributes. They are luster, color, size, and lack of surface flaw and symmetry.  Amongst these attributes, luster is the most important.  Pearls also come in 8 different shapes. They are round, semi-round, button, drop, pear, oval, baroque, and circled.
